August is National Wellness Month – a month to focus on self-care, stress management, and healthy routines. Remember that New Year’s resolution of staying healthy that you either gave up on, have not started yet, or have been slowly working towards? It is not too late to work on, adjust, or make changes to your health goals. The Rogers Park area of Chicago offers a plethora of ways to participate, with morning-to-evening wellness opportunities. Here are some of our favorite ways to de-stress, stay healthy, and take care of ourselves.

Morning Wellness

Charmers Café – 1500 W Jarvis Ave: Start your day off right with a healthy breakfast. Charmers Café offers traditional breakfast fare with healthy options such as oat smoothies, egg bakes, and fresh fruit.

Plantastic – 7529 N Clark Street inside Esporta, an LA Fitness company: For a nutrient-packed breakfast or a mid-morning pick-me-up, choose from a variety of blended juices and smoothies at Plantastic. They offer creative add-ins for custom smoothies, including Irish Sea Moss, one of the latest superfood ingredients.

Daytime Wellness

Centered Studios – 7009 N. Glenwood Avenue: Centered Studios yoga and wellness center is a Rogers Park neighborhood fixture for self care. Take a rejuvenating yoga class, book a relaxing massage, acupuncture, or reiki session, or join one of their special wellness events – such as sunset meditation.

Glenwood Sunday Market – 1448 W. Morse Avenue: The famed Rogers Park farmers market operates on Sundays, offering locally grown produce and homemade prepared foods. Pick up some farm fresh ingredients, a delicious snack, or an edible gift for a loved one.

Mile of Murals – start at N. Glenwood Avenue and W. Morse Avenue (East side of the Morse L station): Celebrate local artists, get some exercise, and find inspiration by strolling along Rogers Park’s Miles of Murals. This ongoing series honors Rogers Park’s artistic identity as well as its individual artists. Take your own self-paced tour or join a guided walking tour available on select dates in August.

Evening Wellness

Uncommon Ground– 1401 W Devon Ave: Uncommon Ground in nearby Edgewater features the area’s first certified organic rooftop farm. Dine on meals made with just-picked herbs and veggies, al fresco on the patio or indoors in a farm-style setting. The restaurant also offers live music and entertainment on numerous evenings throughout August.

Soothe – soothe.com: After a full day, treat yourself to an in-room massage, facial, or beauty service by booking through soothe.com, a mobile, on-demand wellness platform.
